How to Install Stone Cladding
Natural stone cladding transforms any wall into a stunning architectural feature. Whether you're creating a fireplace surround or an exterior garden wall, the installation process is straightforward when you follow the right steps.
What You'll Need
- Flexible stone adhesive
- Notched trowel
- Spirit level
- Stone cladding panels
- Stone sealant
Step 1: Surface Preparation
Ensure your wall is clean, dry, and free from dust and grease. For exterior applications, use a breathable primer to improve adhesion.
Step 2: Plan Your Layout
Dry-fit your panels before applying adhesive to plan the layout and minimise cuts at edges and corners.
Step 3: Apply Adhesive
Using a notched trowel, apply flexible stone adhesive to the wall in manageable sections. Back-butter larger panels for better coverage.
Step 4: Set the Panels
Press each panel firmly into position, working from bottom to top. Use a spirit level regularly to ensure everything is straight.
Step 5: Seal and Finish
Once adhesive has cured (24–48 hours), apply a stone impregnator sealant to protect against stains and moisture.
